Maaike Koster
I was born and raised in Heemstede, in a deeply creative family where photography, art, and architecture were simply part of everyday life - and where a love for nature was quietly woven into everything.
A life that inspires
As a child, I was always drawing, always observing, often with a camera in my hands. I knew from an early age that I wanted to go to art school. I first explored fashion, before going on to study Graphic and Typographic Design at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague - a place that shaped the foundation of the visual language I still work from today. My mind is always on. Sensitive, intuitive, a little restless - and a deep need for beauty and calm. Nature is where everything softens. Long walks through dunes and forests clear my head and make space for new ideas.
I find inspiration in the everyday.
In colors on a sun-washed wall, in a passing sentence, in a quiet street corner somewhere far from home. And often - in France. There is something about it. The light, the rhythm, the effortless beauty. The food, the wine, the slow evenings at long tables. It feels familiar, like a place I return to again and again - both in life and in my work.
The art of living
I love the feeling of a beautifully set table. White linen, good wine, honest food. Conversations that stretch into the night. I’m drawn to timeless interiors and effortless style, design that doesn’t shout, but lingers.

Everything I see, feel, and experience eventually finds its way into my work. My Deer Art Shop was born from that constant flow of inspiration. A collection of limited edition art prints - each one carefully created, hand-signed, and printed on fine art paper. My background in graphic design, combined with my love for interiors, fashion, food and nature, comes together in work that is both minimal and expressive. Soft where it can be. Bold where it wants to be.
